About the Workshop

The shimenawa—a sacred rope made of rice straw—has been used for centuries in Shinto tradition to ward off evil spirits and invite blessings from the gods. During the New Year, a smaller version called "shimekazari" is displayed on doors to welcome the kami (deity) of the coming year into the household.

Under Kaya’s expert guidance, you’ll learn how to craft your own shimenawa using natural materials and discover the meaning behind each element. This experience is perfect for beginners and flower enthusiasts alike.

After the crafting session, stay to enjoy hot matcha paired with traditional wagashi (Japanese sweets).
