Gift Wrapping
Our gift wrapping is eco-friendly and inspired by traditional Japanese gift wrapping that is sustainable. We use “Noshigami” paper, only partially wrapping a box with a “Mizuhiki” ornament hand-made in Japan.
Our boxes are all made of recycled kraft paper but rigid and modern. The rid flips open. We choose not to print our logo on the boxes so you can reuse them. We hope you will reuse the Mizuhiki ornament, too, with or without the elastic band in creative ways. Send us a photo if you reused one; we want to post it on our Instagram account.
( *Some of our products, such as tableware, come boxed by suppliers. In that case, we add “Noshi-gami” paper and a “Mizuhiki” ornament to those boxes.)
Mizuhiki has various meanings, including the followings:
• indicating the item has not been opened
• repelling evil spirits
• binding people together
Mizuhiki is made of Japanese paper (washi) string dyed in many colors and can be shaped in many ways. However, the use of Mizuhiki has some rules.
We chose the flower shape called “Ume (Japanese plum)-musubi (braids)”, which has auspicious meanings:
- to be tied tightly and not to come undone for friendship and love
- good luck charm to ward off evil spirits
- improvement of one's fortunes
Traditionally, the purpose of the gift is written above the Mizuhiki and the sender’s name below. You can request to add the sender and receiver's name and/or a message on it eliminating the need for a separate card.
